Cherokee County provided the park land and CRPA manages the GMHHT, but neither have the funds or manpower to solely build and maintain the trail system. That’s where the Friends of Garland Mountain Trails help. Our volunteers design, construct and maintain the trails to be environment-friendly, erosion-resistant and sustainable and to give equestrians and hikers a scenic, interesting and pleasurable experience.

FGMT organizes volunteer trail work days, usually held on the 2nd Saturday of each month, which offer opportunities to network with other trail enthusiasts, learn about the whys and hows of trail design, stewardship, safety and etiquette, and play in the dirt making new and old trails the best they can be.
